SoCal Rides          Forum         Ride Calendar         Chat       Blog

Before starting this site I was searching the internet for a good forum where motorcycle riders congregate to discuss going on rides local to my area. What I have found is that most sites are centered around a certain model of bike. While there are a few places out there that are just about riding, they have turned out to be difficult to use, or do not allow me (the user) to post in a meaningful way.

In the search for good sites, one of the best I have come across is meetup.com. If a meetup group has a good leader that keeps things going, it is a great resource. Rides are posted on a calendar, and upcoming rides are tracked and can be commented on. It is a clean setup. However the users do not have a good way to communicate with each other. The method for users to communicate are more of an after thought.

There are lots of forums out there that have areas for rides to be posted, but most are forums for a certain model of bike. If I wanted to ride with people that have the same model of bike nothing more would be needed. But I am looking for people that are local so that we can do spur of the moment rides, or small group rides.

I was actually surprised that I was not able to find a forum centered around riding in Southern California. I though I had found it on Pashnit, but there again no local theme or way for locals to congregate, and start up their own bike night and such.

So I have decided to experiment with this new site that I am calling SoCal Rides. The forum is called SoCal Rides Rolecall, and is sectioned off in to areas by city. So far I have included Corona Culver City Fullerton Glendora Hemet Irvine Long Beach Palm Springs Pasadena Perris Rancho Cucamonga Redlands Santa Clarita Temecula and Ventura. I will add more cities as/if they become requested by users.

The idea is that people can post messages in a city close to them (5-10 miles) and everyone on the site can read the posts. That way if someone posts that they want to set up a ride for Saturday, people all over can see the post, and decide if they want to meet up, or if it is too far away for them to participate that day. I know that for some people (myself included) you only have so much time to go riding. Some days you may not have time to ride across the state to meet up with 10 other riders for the whole day, and other days you may have the whole weekend to tear it up.

So the forum is here for all to use. I think there must be other people around that have been looking for this type of site. Hope you find it and post. Let others know when you have time to go out and ride. I am going all day on Saturday! Maybe I can squeeze in Sunday too :)
